Reply with quote | #1 | I have been seeing a dermatologist concerning hair loss. They ran several blood test and everything came back normal with the exception of DHEA. She explained to me that this would not cause my hair loss. I was told to follow up with my primary physician, but have scheduled an appointment in your office within the next few weeks. Is the low DHEA levels something you can address or would I need to schedule an appointment with my primary? Can low DHEA cause hair loss? Thank you and I look forward to my appointment. |

Reply with quote | #2 | In general, DHEA is a precursor to Testosterone. Increased testosterone can be a cause of hair loss. DHEA supplementation may make hair loss worse! Proper balance and adequate estrogen are important factors. We generally check on thyroid function and if you are menopausal, make sure there is adequate estrogen and no excess of testosterone. There is a hair care specialist in town who specialized in fine and thinning hair, and can help with special treatments and products to help increase the growth and thickness of the hair.
